Hand of God (2006)

"In 'Hand of God,' filmmaker Joe Cultrera explores the very personal story of how his brother -- Paul -- was molested in the 1960s by their parish priest, Father Joseph Birmingham, who allegedly abused nearly 100 other children. Producer Joe Cultrera tells the story of faith betrayed and how his brother Paul and the rest of the Cultrera family fought back against a scandal that continues to afflict scores of churches across the country."

Sexual abuse is sexual abuse. It doesn't matter who commits it. It should be dealt with as harshly as a violent crime. We are talking about children in their formative years. The effects are far reaching. If a survivor does not deal with the effects of the abuse the effects will most certainly deal with the survivor. I was also raised in the Catholic faith and have drawn much strength from it. I have also noticed (while on a retreat) the gay priests are not as covert as I thought they might be. One in particuar stood out to the group I was with. We refered to him as, "Fr. Miss Thang". I have nothing against gays.I think these men are pressured by family or guilt perhaps to supress their sexual orientation by joining the priesthood. Thinking they can sequester themselves from a life that might lead them to temptation only to perpetrate the innocent. Then it becomes deviance. It is important to remember that not all priests are deviant. The Catholic faith in itself is legitimate. Wouldn't we make satans day if all Catholics were to turn our backs on our faith!

It doesnt surprise me in the least about these god believing criminals who forsake morality for a glimpse of supposed eternity. All the while these catholic preists sexually amuse themselves by raping boys behind the pews, this god that is supposed to be everywhere isnt anywhere near where the raping takes place. As a atheist, and proud of being free from tyranny,i am appalled by the serious lack of intelligence that is needed in order to believe in a supreme dictator that falls short of being a replica of Hitler(100,000X's worse). One day all these god believing stories will be laughed at and we will be better off as a species.

I went to Catholic school in the 60's. It was my mother's religion not mine. The nuns were horrible women, repressed lesbians. I have, for a long time thought that the priesthood was a perfect hiding place for the pedophiles. Like a secret society. They keep each other's secrets. They forgive what the other has done, even if it's done to the innocent. The nuns were just as evil. I would come home with bruises and pinch marks from the abuse they gave each day. Abuse from not raising your hand before speaking or having an accident because you didn't go to the restroom at break. My mom always thought it was my fault and not the "sisters." I hate nuns. *** each and every one of them. Doing God's work my ass. The priests and nuns that hide their true selves and perversions is forgivable in their warped ***ed up minds. I don't believe in anything they taught. Catholicism like all other organized religions are the true evils of the world and what will eventually destroy us as a race. All in the name of God.
