Style Wars (1983)

"When director Tony Silver and co-producer Henry Chalfant delivered the broadcast version of their prize-winning film to PBS in 1983, the world received its first full immersion in the phenomenon that had taken over New York City. The urban landscape was physically transformed by graffiti artists who invented a new visual language to express both their individuality, and the voice of their community. In STYLE WARS, New York's ramshackle subway system is their public playground, battleground, and spectacular artistic canvas. As MC's, DJ's and B-boys rock the city with new sounds and new moves, we see street corner breakdance battles turn into performance art." -amazon.com

The most fun and nostalgic video I've ever seen.___Having grown-up in NYC's subways throughout the Eighties, this took me all-the-way back to my youth.___The concerned mom (featured in this documentary) was one of my favorite contributors.___It was also refreshing to see the likes of Ed Koch and Richard Ravitch (among others), who are still quite popular, to this day.___Most important, however, was that I finally got to see "SEEN" for the first time.___He was a legend !!!___Too bad I missed viewing this when it originally aired on PBS.___Oh, well, what's a couple of decades between friends (LOL) ???___This is (or, at least, should be) required viewing for every Eighties fan...... Oh, by-the-way, did anyone notice how physically "fit" my generation was in those days ???___Kids of comparable age today, though more "behaved", are way-less-energetic and a lot-more-like "buterballs", complete with their commercially acceptable forms of self-expression.___There, I've said it !!!___And that, in no way, means that I condone vandalism.___It's just an observation.
Once again, "thanks for the memories".
